Lilies are the most pervasive scents here in July, with Muscadet (now finished
) being my favorite overall. Roses Sunsprite and Nahema are adding their lovely fragrances as well. The mints are wonderful every time I mow, and I just can't resist pulling leaves from my culinary herbs whenever I walk past.
Last thing in the evening I stop by the nicotiana and enjoy its sweet perfume. There's also a mystery scent or two that I haven't yet been able to identify. I can't easily get into the middle of my beds to sniff each new plant, so they just might remain mysterious!
Muscadet and Yellow Baby.
Gold Band has a stronger and perhaps a bit more cloying scent than Muscadet. It certainly fills the garden on a still evening, and a few blooms carried indoors will scent the whole house.
It's blooming now, along with the pleasantly scented Bonbini.
I tried a few "hardy" gardenias here last year...I guess they weren't quite hardy enough.
I don't think I've ever smelled a Sweetspire. Are they strong-scented, or lightly pleasant...??
