Just a word of caution... when doing homework in herbs ALWAYS use multiple references and do further checking on discrepancies. Things creep through in publishing that can result in problems as simple as not growing what you thought, to the ingestion of harmful plants.
My latest discovery came from picking up a copy of, "The Ultimate Herb Book: The definitive guide to growing and using over 200 herbs" by Anthony Atha (2001 - first printing). Anyway, I got home and just started doing around. I eventually landed on the entry for
Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed, plierisy root, etc) and the picture is incorrect. The picture shows Asclepias syriaca (common milkweed). This isn't particularly damning however but it could have been. And it immediately brought to mind that folks should be careful when evaluating plants, plant books, etc.
All that said, this book is a great addition to any gardening library. It's well illustrated and full of great information. It also has me cross- referencing future potential additions to the garden.
