So if it doesn't go quickly, it must be pterodactyl diarrhea and vomit? I've had all kinds of weird things showing up this year in the mulch I bought, so it wouldn't surprise me if this was just another thing that came along as a bonus. I could have done without it! With as many mushrooms that I've had popping up, it probably is some sort of mold. I always buy my mulch by the truckload, from the same place and this year there has been a lot of extras in it!
