Zoe, yes I grow tomatoes at my daughter's house in Utah - not as extreme as you but still high altitude, hot, dry and windy. I've gone to extremes at times to keep her tomato plants alive - clipping cardboard around the plants to protect from the hot wind, and yes, buying shade sails for the tomato garden.

The cherry tomatoes always do better than the big slicers for us at her house. They're much more tolerant of the heat, it seems.
