Aphids in my experience wreck plants ideal development or can wreck them completely, of course not all plants and conditions do matter (where, when, etc).
But I have seen it both in private space and the wild.
The problem is ants protect the aphids from predators and colonize the aphids on various plants, you have to see how ants attack ladybugs to not harm the aphids.
The honeydew aphids excrete create a lot of mold on some cherry trees causing leaves and fruits to rot in our case, it looked quite awful.
They also transmit viruses which is a major problem, sure the regular person may say well my plant didn't make it, but it's not a simple for industrial crops or if one person relies on their garden completely.
All potyviruses are transmitted by aphids.
I would suggest Acetamiprid for aphids, but it's best to use these before the massive infestation before the plants are affected.
Now for a plant one could even remove the first aphids they see and all be well without the need to use these substances which is excellent.
But with trees and lots of plants in the garden for a large space manual removal will be impossible, especially an area with tons of ants offering protection against natural predators.
