When I purchased this plant at Lowe's, I did not want another Agave. Seeing that this plant has some extra yellow strips in a few leaves on one side more than the other I figured well maybe. While I was looking at it and thinking, the sales girl said she would reduce it down for me if I wanted it. It was marked about $15 and she reduced it to $7 if I wanted it. So I figured that was a sign and I had to take it. It was smaller but after repotting it last year it grew much. While walking around after the rain I noticed it finally pupped on the side of the extra yellow.
It may not have enough green in it to survive on it's own so for now I will leave it attached for another year to see what happens. Hopefully it will have some green in it.
As a rule, it will produce other pups that will vary in color depending on where it develops at the base of the plant. What I love about unstable variegation. I see on line where nurseries would behead the tops of Agave to force them to pup. Which makes me always look for any variegates in leaves on plants.
