Frillylily gave good advice…
My grants were local or state grants.
We received a Lowe's grant for the hardscaping materials.
Plants were obtained through various local organizations including local gardening clubs… good luck and keep us updated…
Frillylily said: @Lilydaydreamer I believe Lisa has some experience with this? I imagine it can vary depending on what state you are in, and things like that. You might try contacting your areas Master Gardener program and state conservation office, they may be able to give you ideas too. Many times they can donate plants or have sales during the year for plants, native or otherwise. Our conservation office sometimes gives out free tree seedlings too. You could advertise on Craigs List, Freecycle, Facebook ect that you are looking for donations for hardscape, plants, or even volunteers. Send home fliers to parents asking for donations if they can, or organize a work day where families can come and help put things together. Sometimes BoyScouts or other area programs or churches will help with labor too.
Love what you teach and teach what you love!
