Elaine, I agree with Gigi. Orthene Fire Ant Powder is extremely effective. If you mix a couple of tsp. in a gallon of water, and use that as a drench, there will not be an ant after about 12 hr. Applied dry is fine (that's what I do in the yard), but for potted plants that you want quick action, mist the top of the media.
