Last evening I had the most amazing deer encounter, finished the dinner cleanup, decided to go turn the water on the raspberries, open the gate to the terraced area and there was a deer with her head down munching grass on the level just below the raspberries, so close, like 5 feet, finally she looks up, I tell her it's ok, I expected her to turn and run, instead, much to my surprise she lays down in the cool grass in the shade of the rocks right in front of me.. I quietly close the gate and leave. So I tell DH, and before I know it he is stomping across the deck to try and see her, then he tells me it is a buck, I say no it isn't, he says it has horns, I say no it doesn't, I know horns when I see them. He points to the buck, sure enough it has horns, there are 2 of them, I show him where she is, I had not seen the buck. Isn't that just too cool!!!! DH stood on a chair and got a couple of photos. The deer were more important than the raspberries, but they did get water later after the deer left.

If you look carefully you will see the doe's ear on the right hand side of the second photo.
