Sticking to socks is a big clue IMHO. Not a lot of seeds do that, when you think of all the seeds out there.
They appear round, I expect carrot seed family to be flat, and not sticky.
Cleavers is a small, fragile and not showy plant. You can easily trample it and never notice. Other parts of cleavers plants may stick to you as well.
Plant it and they will come.
