I believe the 3+ish month germination is normal for them, though I'm not yet sure if snipping the arils reduces it or not. That's the only part of it I'm not sure about. Yet!

I don't know if the rhizomes are edible, since I've only heard of them being used for perfume. They're very fragrant, but not in a way that makes me think I'd ever like to eat it.
