Vandas are beautiful, but again kind of high maintenance divas. They grow with no medium whatsoever, with long roots waving in the air. So when it's dry you need to mist them every day because they need some sun to bloom. IF the humidity is low they need misting twice a day. That's why I don't have any although I love them. Also because they are big and expensive so I'd feel guilty if I killed one. Give me an orchid in a pot any day, I like to go on vacation.
Most of my bromeliads are in/on the ground. They're very easy care, but they do get watered at least twice a week by the automated micro-sprinklers in spring and fall when it's hot and dry here.
