Tom.. Our spring weather is tough on them the temp swings from 80's to 20's and back in April really screws up the branching and bud count and the late frosts you never know what you've got ..
They do not have that problem on the west coast a much longer growing season and almost a perfect climate for iris was amazed a couple years ago when I visited friends in Santa Cruz and found one of my seedlings that had always bloomed here consistently at Border Bearded height and there it was at my waist
this past season was about as perfect as it will get for Iowa and it still bloomed short.
Poly.. I keep way too many as you can see from the pictures in the other thread Im lucky enough to have the space to plant them its the weeding and maintaining them all is what gets me in trouble
we cleaned house this year and I cut back 50% much easier to keep up with..
Sherry.. Thank You ! It was quite the year for violets and lilacs seemed to have an abundance of good things in those colors bloom and realized I don't grow a lot of them anymore have been working on different projects but need to add more of them to the garden they really stand out .. I had another group bloom that attracted a lot of attention from visitors you can see what kind of an impact the lilacs/ violet shades have in the garden my eyes go right to those colors.
