Years ago, like over 20, there was an alligator named Big George that lived at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens here in Gainesville in one of the ponds. The staff, including the director of the garden at the time, were wading in the pond to clean it out when Big George grabbed the director by the arm and bit his arm off at the elbow. He refused to let them kill George. I always admired him for that. I met him at a Halloween party one year. Nice guy.
