Tomato juice never worked for me, but the following is fool proof:
1 pint hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 Tbs lemon scented dish soap
Mix it up and apply immediately. A spray bottle can be used to apply it to carpet or furniture. If ANY smell remains - a spot was missed. The neutralization is instant and complete. DH found it on the net years ago. Good thing, because out here in the sticks we've had dozens of skunk/dog encounters.
