I just pulled up those over 2228 listings with some form of the word pattern in the description, of those listed I am guessing maybe a fraction of a percentage would actually fit the new AHS description of a patterned daylily.

I would expect that term to be used exponentially more now that it has been recognized and defined? Will it be possible to narrow down a search to fit that term so the non relevant things like eyes, and appliques will not be included?
That was what I was trying to point out with the different ways of searching. The search data is pulled from the written descriptions so if a hybridizer uses "pattern" in their description then it would come up in the search. These are the current searchable terms under Bloom Traits...

From your checking the search and seeing the same thing I did, I'm not sure "pattern" is what should be added to the search list. "Patterned" still brings up some that do not fit the AHS def of "pattern". "Patterned eye" in the search box (1082) gets closer to what I think you were asking for with "pattern"? That seems to block out most (but not all because of use by the hybridizer) of the solid eyes and simple appliques. "Patterned" + checking eye or band (1484) brings up nonpatterns.
@Calif_Sue what do you think?
