sorry, only saw your response after I posted. Yes, I think you had the right call. I think my blooms are just more colorful than a lot of the database photos of L. squamigera, which have almost a washed-out look. And my eye wasn't really going to asynmetry in the blooms, but they aren't as symmeticrally arranged as, say, an amaryllis either.
Do you know if L sprengeri makes really huge (fist-sized or better) bulbs? If so, it's also possible I had both planted in that area and only the L. squamigera survived long-term, which would definitely add to my confusion. I remember digging a piece for a friend that was enormous, but the bulbs I divided last summer looked like the photos on the L. squamigera page.
I'm the first to admit, I need a better system of record keeping than just taking pictures here and there! My labels all seem to evolve into footed creatures.
