I have narrowed the identification of this tree down to a type of orchid tree. The thing I'm having trouble with is figuring out if it's a Bauhinia purpurea or a Bauhinia variegata. Most pictures I am finding are mixing up one between the other. Only reason I care is because pfag.org says one is more useful and edible than the other
