Rick, if birds get to be a real problem, temporarily cover the plant tops or pod with panty hose (seriously). It works! You can remove it when they're no longer a problem. It doesn't block much sunlight, either--which, of course, we all have to be concerned of at this point. I'm watching four yellow finches as I'm writing this-- working over the Brown Eyed Susans for breakfast!
