I have started to bring my Cattleyas inside.
I did have some black rot this Summer as I had mentioned. Now except for one plant, none of the hanging plants had any of that. All afflicted plants were sitting on the back wall bench of the cage, and I suspect they simply did not get enough aeration, also there was always room between the Orchids.
I am happy to report that on some of the Cattleyas which had surgery, the live eyes on older growth started sprouting a new lead. So all was not lost.
