Tink, I do have Millorganite and Miracle Grow. Can you throw Millorganite into the hole when you plant them or should I use osmocote. I know my soil is different, I just want something that will not burn the roots.
I WOULD NOT throw the milorganite into the hole unless it has cooled down in your area. I did put some in the holes with my seedlings I moved to the evaluation bed and they seem fine, BUT I put some in the pots of the daylilies I divided a few weeks ago and it wrecked havoc on most of them. The milorganite got WAAAAYYYYYY too hot and the daylilies are awful looking. I actually lost several because of this. I just repotted them all today and the ones that didn't go capoot were all growing new roots, but it set them waaaaayyyyy back in growth.
Now the seedlings in the beds where I added the milorganite look fine and are growing good so it was most likely the black pots that get hot anyway getting even hotter. To throw caution to the wind I would just go back and top dress (an inch or 2 away from the plant) with the milorganite so it's not near the roots and it will seep down to the roots slowly.
I use Florikan (nutricote) which is like Osmocote in the hole and top dress with it.
