The Honken Dahlia package left St. Paul sometime yesterday and arrived in Cincinnati last night and then Cleveland after midnight. It's still scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

I couldn't resist checking a supplier that opened last night. I ended up buying six tubers. Two were "insurance" for varieties of which I only had one of each stored. Another was Steve O. that a certain enabler on this forum has posted photos of the past few years. I finally caved and bought it. (Thanks Melissa!). LOL

I went through the baskets of wrapped tubers yesterday and found 50-60 or more that had eyes I could see through the saran. I moved those to a separate basket. I unwrapped another two dozen and found about half had tiny eyes. I put those into zip locks with a spray of water. I'll open more in a few days.

If I can catch a dry day next week I'll go to Menard's for the bales of straw and pro mix. Also need to give the rectangular planters a bleach bath before using them.

I occasionally check the garden soil for dampness to try and figure when I might be able to till. It's still a bit too wet and we have showers today with more forecast for tonight and Friday. While I was out yesterday, I decided to check some of the clumps I left in the ground last fall. The first clump was in great shape but the next 4 or 5 were nothing but slimy mush. It makes me wonder why some can survive the winter while most rot in the ground.
