They may not want you to return it (because of shipping expenses) but definitely try. If they say keep the old one, then you can experiment with propagation. Send them the photos.

In the meantime, take the top and stick it in a jar of water to keep it fresh. After they agree to replace it with an unbroken tree, cut the pieces into 6 inch pieces (at least 3 nodes), cut off all the leaves and stick them into potting mix with only one node above soil. Put them all in the same pot and keep them watered. If you live in a dry area, put a baggie over them to hold in some humidity. They root in just a few weeks.

What you have left in the pot will grow but will be a bush. Figs want to be bushes anyway - that one has a head start. Smiling
