I don't think squirrels are at all interested in daffs, hence their enormous popularity, but the newly disturbed soil may appeal to them for digging. If you stick a few plastic forks in with them, with the tines sticking up, squirrels won't dig them up. When the ground them is firm again, you can pull the forks out.
