I collected some Sweet William seeds (Dianthus barbatus, I am told). They sprouted where I had planted some seed "mix".

I am also told they are biennial, but they sure seeded the first year I saw any plants there. Maybe there were tiny unidentified "weeds" the year before, that flowered and seeded this year?

Or maybe the fact that I had to uproot all of them and move them to other beds convinced them to flower and seed in their first year, or die!
