I grow my spider plants year round outdoors in full sun to part shade, since our winters are quite mild here. They grow like weeds here, so hard to kill. I water them heavily at least once a week with occasional sprays especially during very hot days. These plants likes to be pot bound and grows more babies when it is like that from what I see. It has such huge root systems that can really store water, so in case you forgot to water them for awhile, no worries, those roots really store them well.

Earlier this year I divided and gave away a lot of them....so interesting to see those huge plump roots...Right now they are back to being big and growing lots of babies.

Here's how the divisions of my spider plants went...and see their roots:

During winter, I just let the rains do the watering, and they may appear scraggly but as spring comes in, it recovers quickly and will bask in the warmth once more.
