After a scenic drive through the Benini Sculpture Ranch outside Johnson City, and before winding up at Oktoberfest in Fredericksburg, we stopped at Wildseed Farms. It's about seven miles east of Fredericksburg on Highway 290. It was nearly 4:30 and we thought it might be closing, but the parking lot was filled with cars and RVs. The grounds around the buildings were decorated in hundreds of pumpkins of all shapes, colors, and sizes. There was a nip in the air that made walking the grounds a more pleasant experience than it would have been a few days prior. We spotted hard to find perennials,as well as plenty old favorites, at reasonable prices.
I was on a mission to buy wildflower seeds that were specifically sorted for our Central Texas area.
Straight to the bins, I found our geographic mix (which we share with Oklahoma) and picked up a quarter pound bag of twenty-six varieties for $10. Since I only have limited space for wildflowers, I have enough seeds to share with my neighbors on both sides and across the street!

Now is the perfect time to plant a wildflower garden. If you can't drive to Fredericksburg to purchase seeds and you want a large variety, you can order online at http://www.wildseedfarms.com/
