It is with a very heavy heart that I announce the closing of my nursery, Earlybird Daylilies. As you may have heard, western Kansas is experiencing the worst drought since the thirties. I have never seen anything like it. The last decent rain we had was July of 2010. The ground is bone-dry. There is no subsoil moisture at all. Even trees are dying at an alarming rate. I have had the sprinklers running non-stop since March, and it is barely enough. By the time I get all through the garden, the starting points are already dry again. Without any rain at all, I cannot keep up and there is NOTHING in the long-range forecast. I have not added any new plants for two years & have been sending lots of extras with orders trying to reduce the size of the garden. My water bill has been around $500 a month this whole time. Last Saturday we had 45-50 mph wind all day and there was so much dirt in the air, visibility at times was less than 1/4 mile. That was the final straw. So now through the end of the year I am offering 25% off of everything and in most cases you will get multiple fans- considerably more than the standard double fan. Please help me rehome these daylilies before I have to just plow them under. My garden is state-inspected and rust-free. The plants still look good (thanks to my $500 water bills!). http://www.earlybirddaylilies....
