It's a little on the drab side compared to most other yellows, but it brightens up a bit with spring bloom. Here is a picture taken in spring. Even when the color looks a little drab in the winter, though, I still think it is an elegant flower. There are slight purple undertones that give it almost a pale butterscotch color in winter, and sometimes there's a little purplish flash under the beards on the falls in winter.
