I agree this is a wonderful gift idea for a relative.
When I grew up in Holland as a child, we had 'birthday calendars' that were perpetual - there were no days but only the dates of the month so the calendar would last forever and it was for the sole purpose of writing down birthdays. As far as I remember they were always hanging in the bathroom...
