No snakes here, just some Orchids are doing their thing! I may have to put Jim on speed dial, we have plenty of Snakes at our place in Pennsy. At least in the early years we were almost overrun with Snakes, most of them Garter and large Black Snakes. I did see a Copper Head once.
Anyway - back to the Orchids -
I LOVE the scent of Lc (John Mossman x Irving Dietsche 'Inky') x Lc Don DeMichaels, imagine Carnations and Vanilla, it smells really pretty. It even overpowers the Blc Chia Lin which is no slouch either in the scenting department.
First of three spikes:
One of my favorites this time of year is Coelia bella or Bothriochilus bellus. The blooms emerge together with the new growth and - imagine the scent of sweet Almond paste or Marzipan, sheer heaven. The plant is really huge, I should have split it last Spring, but didn't have the heart. The pseudobulbs have the shape and color of Granny Smith apples, very attractve.
Ceratostylis philippinensis starts to produce tons of tiny blooms. These are strongly Spearmint scented.
And Barkeria melanocaulon opens a spike right on schedule.
