Della, I think there can be many false alarms with lilies, especially with younger seedlings grown in pots. When your temperature shot up to 32'C, I'll bet the soil temp in some pots in full sun approached near 40. I think that plays havoc with a lilies body chemical processes. Add to that the additional stress of budding and blooming.
But my knowledge only comes from growing experience and association. You didn't start a panic--this is a constructive open discussion from which we all learn. We often do this here; somebody will hilite a feature and a discussion developes. Over time, ( if you haven't already) you'll learn that 99.9% of the time, Rick with his extensive academic background as well as growing experience is most correct in his summary and conclusion.
Another causual factor might be genetic, too, where heat stress just made it more apparent. Rick, would I be correct in thinking that?
