. Ethnic Indian store, ok in Bangladesh's climatic conditions you get different, in central India where it is hot and dry you get different. In Indonesia where it is not so hot but very muggy you get different and Noel if you have never considered to eat this veg does not mean that the Neo Tropical countries are not eating. They are but I don't know which variety as I was to busy in . As to African countries, apartheid was common in those days I never got the chance to get on friendly terms with the locals, so I don't know which variety they are eating. Colocasia esculenta grows like mad here, South West Asia.
Visit different(climatic conditions) ethnic stores for different varieties I suppose. Why this Colocasia esculenta is so common, because the Colonial masters took a lot of migrants from this area to different spots around the world as cheap work force and this happens to be the cheapest veg to fill hungry bellies. This is a part of history and not my comments.
Even here you can find Colocasia esculenta in different colours. These stores may not be importing from here but growing what ever variety they have over there only. The problem is that it does not withstand the cold even here where I am, I have to take them out every winter and store them. Why am I storing them when I am able to buy them, force of habit maybe.
As it reached Egypt thousands of years back and Europe got to know Egypt way before they came across us or any one else that is why this is esculenta(edible) in Latin. In Australia, Colocasia esculenta var. aquatilis is native. Aquatilis, Aqua wonder if it does well in water?
