Kathy, I would say you have a deciduous Calanthe. This is my Calanthe St. Aubin which hasn't had a leaf since last fall and is now just starting to develop a new growth (lower right). I read somewhere that if you separate the older grow from the newer growth, this will cause the older growth to produce a new growth as well so you can multiply the family more quickly. I tried it last time and it did work. It is time to do it again.
Todd, I would think this same practice would work for your Cycnoches as well. I also have a 'semi-hardy' Calanthe as well that I can't figure out what to do with. Last year I put it in the dark in my cold room and the leaves stayed green and I brought it out in spring but it did not start any new growth so this year I left it on window sill and just now am seeing a new growth as the almost 2 year old leaves turn yellow and wither.
