After 10 years, you never suspect that it won't survive. It's a Salvia, after all -- not a fragile tropical plant.
I moved all of the Clivia, Hibiscus, Mandevilla, Plumeria, and other tropical plants into the solarium because I expected them to suffer. We usually have four or five days of frost in winter. Now we seem to have four or five days of frost every week. And it came much earlier this year. I usually move things inside during Thanksgiving weekend, but this year we had a frost warning at the end of October, so I had a frantic day getting everything under cover before dark.
It still hasn't dipped below 25 degrees in my garden, so I'm likely to be in zone 9b rather than 9a, but it's the almost unbroken string of days with morning frost that's killing plants unexpectedly.
