Is there any lower spot available to you? It would be more productive if you drained it. As long as it isn't right on top of your leach field, you could build a raised bed to get the roots above the water table.

If you dig a trench and back-fill with gravel, I would expect the leached water to be safe for crops after passing through 10-20 feet of filtration. Or avoid root crops!
