Your Blue Spruce is looking great.
That bed is going to be gorgeous filled with colorful zinnias. It makes me smile just thinking about it.

We have clay here also. Very heavy clay. Over the years we've added truck loads of composted forest products. It is finally doing much better.
The alpine type plants I grow in raised beds filled with the compost, sand and pea gravel or chicken grit. They love it. Nice and fast draining for our long rainy season in winter and spring.
