Dot all hybridizers compost a lot more seedlings than they can give away, sell, or register. I would guess most compost 95% or more each year. If you plant 5000 seedlings each year and register 5 - 10 or 20 each year the odds of getting something worthy of registration is slim. You may get lots of pretty blooms but the rest of the plant want measure up to bud count, branching, scape hight and so on. Also most of those pretty blooms will look like something thats already out there.
