Thanks Mike. I started off with the Wikipedia list, and then started cross referencing the list with the Modern Rose encyclopedia, and am modifying the list as I go through. I'm on the gymnocarpae section now, which has presented me with a bit of a dilemma because, although it is listed as a section in the Wikipedia article, it appears to no longer exist. R. gymnocarpae itself is now in the Cinnamomeae section of Eurosa, and the other roses in the section appear to have been assigned elsewhere.
I may be wrong, but there appears to be so little agreement amongst botanists as to what defines a species, not to mention how much variation is allowable within a species, that there is no single 'right' list. It will keep me busy reading reference papers at any rate.
