Nice article, Larry. These iris are a very adaptable type, and I'm thinking that's why you found such varied info on their culture. This is where a forum like ATP really shines, because you can ask gardeners in your zone, and in your area about their experiences with the plant. Bet you'll get a lot better info that way.
I grow them here in Florida, zone 10a both in my pond, with their feet in the water (where they get taller) and on shore where they do need lots of water but also benefit from a dry out period after blooming. They are shorter, but bloom more in the garden than in the pond.
It is really amazing that the Society's info is so contradictory.
