Some self so freely, but I read that they can be successfully grown from seed if they are fresh. Do your homework because some are sterile. I like the steril ones the best because they bloom better,since the plant does not waste energy producing seed. I have a sterile Hibiscus and the flowers are spectacular. Green Grin!
