First step is to select your trees that are in the same family. So we will start with the Butia Odorata formally classified as Butia Capitata var odarata.Thumb of 2013-03-08/eriktampabay/37a5cb
This palm normally self pollinates as it is unisex. So we emasculate all of the male flowers off of the inflorescence.Thumb of 2013-03-08/eriktampabay/3bce39

Once all the male flowers are removed we wash the inflorescence and bag it so it can not cross pollinate with other nearby trees.Thumb of 2013-03-08/eriktampabay/f7b2a0

And that is the first step to making a hybrid palm.
