Rick, I have a 1/2 in screen for the big pieces and an 1/8 inch screen for the fines.

I should have added that I don't use the super fine bark pieces by themselves for the wintersowing, but they're mixed into the medium-bark potting mixes.

I haven't had much luck with big box store pine mulch, but the local nurseries carry a bark product that works great (after screening, of course).

I'm so used to the pine bark potting mixes now that I don't know how to keep plants alive in peat-based mixes. Well, I should clarify that and say I've *never* been able to keep houseplants alive when they were in regular peat mixes! Hilarious!

So far I only have alyssums sprouting. I know I need to be patient, but they sprouted so fast last year that I need to learn what "normal" is!
