Yes in Seattle and beyond glass greenhouses are a in thing but in a place which is hot and dry for 80% of the year, a glass greenhouse can become a nightmare.
Kew Garden has a massive greenhouse and when I visited it, most of the time I spent going over their ventilation, humidifying and air-conditioning system other then appreciating their gardening skills.
