Going back awhile, Anthony posted this beautiful creature Thumb of 2013-03-25/dellac/c78036 and I was smitten.

He was good enough to supply a potted specimen, bulbil progeny of the original that had been found in an old Sandy Bay garden, and I had took it home to examine closely. As the flower and anthers opened I suspected it was a triploid. It certainly didn't look like the other pictures of L. lancifolium var. flaviflorum.

Scouring books I found a photograph of Hornback's Gold. The spitting image of Anthony's lily. Hornback's Gold is an exceptional old triploid variety with L. lancifolium var. flavum in its breeding. It's nearly impossible to find images online, in fact, I found just one other:Thumb of 2013-03-25/dellac/af3a8a

But... I think it's certain in my mind that they're one and the same. We have Hornback's Gold alive and thriving here in Hobart! Hurray!

(And I'm posting this here because I experimented with crosses, and have some seed pictures to show - when I get back to computer!)
