Last week I seen first flower for this year of a species of Argemone. I was lucky to be able to take some pictures which I will present below.
The area where I found it it is a wild area in the Victoria, Tx city. It is an area for walk. Kind of park of city, on an neighborhood edge.
There it is some swings for kids, an abandoned tennis field, and an alley. Not very frequented by people. The area is not small and there grow a big variety of wild plants. It is on a bank of a creek. The soil are sandy, but in a part of area the soil are very sandy. In this very sandy soil grow many plants, with xeric aspect. In the other part it is more grass, but and there are many other plants.
Unfortunately the area is mowed occasionally, This make the area to be very disturbed from time to time. And observing plants is more difficult. Sometimes, but not necessarily, appearance of plants, may not be similar to those plants that grow in areas with rare or no disturbance.
I found the plant presented below in the part of area with very sandy soil.

I tried to identify the species . I suppose it can be Argemone albiflora ssp. texana and Argemone polyanthemos and I think I can't go far with ID.
Based on maps most likely would be Argemone albiflora ssp. texana, bBut I found a map that tells me it's likely to be and Argemone polyanthemos in my area.
And an ID based on map it is more a statistically ID. Last word must be based on botanical feature. Maybe someone familiarized on Argemone species can easy make the difference between the species.

The pictures below was taken on the 23 March, 2013, location Victoria, Tx.
