I also wanted to add- don't forget the value of some annuals for the critters. My hummers love nicotiana, impatiens, petunias, annual salvia, even zinnias.
And one of my very best hummer plants is lobelia cardinalis
My best-ever butterfly attractor was verbena bonariensis.
It also brought hummingbird moths
