I'm old enough to see your point. The first rose garden I planted didn't look like anything until the fifth or sixth year. And it was not until year nine or ten that I started being completely satisfied with it. I guess that there are a lot of good roses that I might buy this spring from Roses Unlimited & Palatine that might start to have a real garden presence three or four years before the new VG roses. They are not yet even cuttings in France.
Still, if one is an inveterate rose collector, different/new has its attractions. And bagging a pernetiana or tea/noisette that's been out of commerce for more than fifty years might be fun.
