Cold out there but I just came in from pulling some of my tulips. I know one of my neighbors from the back of the property could see me and was probably thinking I am completely nuts. But this is that backyard daylily bed. I had put in four types of Gregeii tulips. I had it all planned, plant once and enjoy forever. But I see Sundance and Goldwest, two of the four. Then the other two are supposed to be Large Copper and March Of Time. They are not. Both are short like Kaufmanniana. I am absolutely sure one of them is Showwiner of which I have 200 already between the front and daylily slope. I didn't want any more in the batch up there. I don't know what the other is but it looks nothing like the one it is supposed to be.
So I just went out and very carefully (so as not to disturb the others) pulled up those ones I am sure are Showwwinner in that bed. Had to do it now while they are in flower so as to get the ones I wanted. I left the other strange ones and of course I left the correct ones.
I have already ordered more of the yellow Goldwest (love them) and a red greiggii called Red Riding Hood to add to that bed. Oh, and Oratio will go there also. So next year it will still be more colorful than ever.
Only thing is that now I will have to do the planting the hard way as I have to put out some sort of markers to show where I already have bulbs and work around them.
