You were probably growing Clarkia pulchella, Caroline. It's definitely thin and tall, and is native to the NW and a few other areas. I used to admire it growing wild in Oregon and got out my Audubon book to identify it. Then went on a quest for seeds! I really like the flowers, although the plant itself is a bit sparse.
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.
